Working with folders

Learn what folders are and what features they include, such as folder settings, index pages, and tools for organising your content.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

As the number of pages grows, keeping everything organised can become a challenge. That’s where folders come in. Folders allow you to categorise your pages based on topics or content types and helps to maintain a clean and structured layout.

How to create folders?

Click on Create new… and select Folder.

Fill up the Folder name and the Folder URL will be auto-populated based on the folder name. The character limits are:

  • Folder title - 100 characters

  • Folder URL - 200 Characters

When a folder is created, you will notice the following:

  1. Folder settings – Allows you to edit the folder’s page title and URL.

  2. Create new button – Enables you to create pages, subfolders, and collections within the folder.

  3. Auto-generated index page – A default page that acts as a directory for navigating the folder’s contents.

Folder settings

You can access the Folder settings in two ways:

  • From within the folder – Look for the folder settings icon or option while viewing the folder.

  • From outside the folder – Click the ellipsis menu (⋯) next to the folder name, then select "Edit folder settings" from the dropdown.

When clicked, you can edit the folder name and URL here.

  • Do note that changing folder URL will change all the page URLs nested under this folder.

  • e.g. /about-us/team to /about-us-updated/team

Create new button

Click on the blue button and there should be a dropdown of options to create a:

  • Folder

  • Page

  • Collection

Instead of creating new pages within a folder, you can also move existing pages into a folder:

  1. Click the ellipsis menu (⋯) next to the page you want to move.

  2. Select the "Move to…" option from the dropdown.

Choose the destination folder where you'd like to move the page.

Once it is moved, a success message will appear to confirm that the page has been successfully moved.

Index pages

You might have noticed an automatically generated page at the top of each folder. These are called index pages. Index pages serve as content directories that help improve navigation.

In the next section, we will explore index pages in more detail.

How deep can I create my folders?

There is no hard limit on how deep you can create folders in your site. However, as a best practice, we recommend limiting folder depth to 3–4 levels. This helps keep your site structure easy to navigate for both users and search engines, ensuring your content remains organised and accessible without becoming overly complex.
