What are overview pages?
Overview pages (previously referred to as index pages) act as content directories. They automatically organise and display the contents of a folder — pages, subfolders, or collections — so your website visitors can browse and find what they are looking for.
Overview pages are mandatory and are automatically created when you create a folder.
How to edit your overview page
Click on the overview page at the top of your folder in Isomer Studio.
You will notice there are 2 main editable sections here.
Header
Custom block - child pages
Editing the header
To edit the page title, you have to go to the folder and click on "Folder Settings"
Learn more about folder settings.
You can edit or add the following to an index page:
Page Summary (mandatory) – A brief description that gives users context about the page.
Buttons – Link to internal pages, external websites, or downloadable files.
Thumbnail image - Upcoming feature. Look out for our release notes here.
Alternate text – Descriptive text for the thumbnail, improving accessibility.
Adding blocks to your overview page
You can now add any block type to your overview page. This lets you add introductory text, images, callouts, or other content above or around the child pages listing to give your website visitors more context.
Add blocks the same way you would on a standard layout page. A table of contents is automatically generated when your overview page has two or more section headings.
Editing the content block
The child pages block automatically lists all pages under the folder.
Choosing the layout
There are two options:
by boxes - displays pages in a grid, two per row by default
by rows - displays pages in a single column list
Display page summary and thumbnails
You can enable a toggle to display the summary and thumbnail for each child page. Thumbnails are managed individually on each page. If a page has no thumbnail, Isomer Studio will display your site logo as a fallback.
Reordering child pages
To change the order of child pages within a folder, press and hold, then drag and drop the items into your preferred sequence.
Going fully custom
If you want full control over your overview page layout — for example, to group pages into sub-categories — you can remove the child pages block entirely and build the page from scratch using cards or text blocks.
To remove the child pages block, click on the block and select Delete, then add your own blocks to organise the links manually.
Save and publish
Once you’ve finished your edits, be sure to click Save and then Publish to make your updates live.
Why are my overview page child pages not showing?
If your index page isn't displaying any or all of the child pages under a folder, it’s likely due to unpublished pages.
How to fix it
Check if the pages are published
To fix this, navigate to each page under the folder and check the Publish button.
Look at the Publish button:
If the Publish button is blue, the page hasn’t been published yet.
Click Publish to make it live.
Confirm the page is published:
Once published, the button should appear greyed out, indicating it's live.
Return to the index page:
Refresh or preview the index page again — the newly published pages should now appear in the list.
Why do we need index pages?
Index pages help users easily see and navigate the contents within a folder. This improves usability, especially for sections with multiple related pages.
They are mandatory and are automatically created when you make a new folder, ensuring that users can view and access the content inside it.
In the next section, we’ll explore on why they are needed in more detail.
