Integrating GTM to your Isomer site

This functionality is not yet up in Studio.

Pass your GTM ID to the Isomer team and we will help to integrate it to your site during launch. This should be passed when informing Isomer team on site launches.

Where is my GTM ID?

Login in to https://tagmanager.google.com/. Your Tag Manager homepage should be showing your site’s GTM ID. Find the GTM ID that is corresponding to the specific site / domain. It should be in GTM-XXXXX format.

Else, you can also find your GTM ID is on the top right corner of your account dashboard.

Understanding Google Tag Manager (GTM) vs. Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

Before beginning the setup process, it's important to distinguish between Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

  • Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a tag management system that allows for the easy addition and control of tracking codes (tags) on a website, without requiring changes to the site’s codebase. It provides a centralised dashboard where tags can be added, updated, or removed as needed.

  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is a web analytics service that collects data on website and app usage, helping to analyse user behaviour, traffic sources, and engagement across platforms.

In essence, GTM acts as the container or toolbox, and GA4 is one of the instruments or tools placed inside it to collect and display data. GTM can contain different tags e.g. Meta Pixels etc and GA4 can be one of them.

It is recommended to set up GA4 first, as the Measurement ID generated during GA4 setup will be required when configuring GTM.

Setting up GA4

Go to https://analytics.google.com/ and sign in with your Google account.

Enter your account name.

Choose the following data sharing settings. Click Next.

Choose the reporting time zone to be in Singapore and the currency to be in Singapore Dollar (SGD). Click Next.

Choose Law & Government and business size to be Small. Click Next.

Choose Get baseline reports. Click Create.

There will be a popup modal. Read through the terms of service and click I Accept.

Choose Web.

There will be a popup modal to set up your data stream.

  • Enter the URL and your stream name. This stream name could be your site name.

  • Check that the toggle for enhanced measurement is toggled on.

  • Click Create stream.

You will be shown your web stream details. Copy this measurement ID here. It will be in the format of G-XXXXXX.

Copy this GA4 measurement ID. You will require this later during GTM set up.

Setting Up Google Tag Manager (GTM)

Go to https://tagmanager.google.com. Log in with the respective account.

In the Accounts tab (top left), click Create Account (top right).

Fill in the following details:

  • Account Name

  • Country

  • Under Container Setup, select Web

A prompt to install GTM will appear. As GTM is already integrated into Isomer, this prompt can be closed.

Click New Tag to create a tag.

Rename the tag with a clear and descriptive name.

Click on Triggering.

Select All Pages, then click Add.

Click Tag Configuration.

Select Google Tag.

Paste the GA4 Measurement ID that was copied earlier.

Review the tag configuration and triggering settings, then click Save.

A new tag will appear in the workspace. The changes will not be published yet. Click Submit (top right) to publish the changes.

Provide a version name and description and click Publish.

Copy the GTM container ID and send it to the Isomer team if you have not done so.

Verifying GTM Installation

After the Isomer team has completed the integration, open GTM and click Preview (top right).

Enter the website’s URL.

The website will open in a new tab or window. Ensure that it is the correct site.

Return to the GTM preview tab. If connected, GTM will confirm the connection. Click Continue.

A message should appear stating that the GTM tag has been found on the site.

It is recommended to monitor over the next few days to confirm that data is being successfully streamed into GA4.

If the GTM tag is not found:

  • Wait approximately 15 minutes and try again.

  • If the issue persists, reach out to Isomer support for assistance.
